Cedar Island has been slowly disappearing because of erosion. We have been in contact with the Village of Lake Villa who has partnered with our group to investigate the best way to help save the island from eroding even further.
The Friends team helped write a Request For Proposal (RFP) that was sent out to multiple engineering firms with the goal for them to provide a framework for how they would address the erosion problem, and the cost to develop a solution.
The Village reports that the three finalists selected, CBBL, ILM, and Baxter & Woodman, will present their proposals to the Village the week of 6/8. Two Friends members are helping to make the final selection.
There is a sense of urgency to a) select a finalist and b) for the finalist to conduct due diligence and provide a study outlining the solution and cost. The study needs to be completed by the end of summer in order to meet application deadlines for grant money to help pay for the erosion solution.
