A small group of volunteers take measurements at four locations on Cedar Lake. We monitor phosphorous levels, pH, percentage of dissolved oxygen, water temperature, and lake clarity at different depths. We do this biweekly on Saturday mornings, ten times from April through October. If you would like to become part of the team, let us know. The team will show you the ropes and welcome your participation.
Cedar Lake was again one of the lakes selected to participate in the Lake County Lake Lovers water quality monitoring program. Using sophisticated measuring devices provided by Lake Lovers, our team goes out every two weeks to measure the health of the lake.
Last year (our first year of monitoring) provided a baseline of the lake's health. This year we are tracking changes that may occur due to development of land around the lake, changes in goose population, potential septic leakage, etc. Results are posted on the Lake Lovers website, including results from other lakes participating in the program.
